ABOUT THE MARCH

MARCH FOR OUR CONSTITUTION is a peaceful protest on Saturday, March 22 at the Wilshire Federal Building in Westwood, Los Angeles. We are marching to protest Donald Trump’s illegal assault on the US Constitution. We are also marching in support of the federal judges and workers in the federal government who are actively resisting his unconstitutional actions. Let them know they are doing the will of the American people!

We will march 1 mile through closed streets and sidewalks of Westwood and arrive at the Wilshire Federal Building for a rally with speakers including:

  • Aliyah Levin, President, AFGE Local 2391
  • Ben Allen, CA State Senator, 24th District
  • Chelsea Lee Byers, Mayor of West Hollywood
  • Congresswoman Laura Friedman (CA-30)
  • Congresswoman Maxine Waters (CA-43)
  • Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37)
  • Emiliana Guereca, Founder and President of Women's March Foundation
  • Joel Reynolds, Senior Strategist and Attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC)
  • Joseph Fishkin, Co-Author, The Anti-Oligarchy Constitution
  • Richard Cooks, Commander, DAV, LILLIAN BUSHNELL #123
  • Sheila Kuehl, Former LA County Supervisor and CA State Senator
  • Tamara Melzer Levenson, Executive Director, Grassroots Democrats HQ
  • Torie Osborn, Community Organizer, Activist, and Author

This is a permitted protest, planned in cooperation with the LAPD Board of Commissioners.

WHAT UNCONSTITUTIONAL ACTIONS ARE WE PROTESTING?

Here are some of the actions Trump and his administration have taken that violate the constitution and federal laws:

  • Signed an executive order to remove birthright citizenship, which is granted under the 14th Amendment to any baby born in the United States
  • Ordered ICE to detain and deport legal permanent residents without due process, infringing on the 1st, 5th, and 14th amendments
  • Froze billions of dollars in federal spending across hundreds of programs
  • Fired tens of thousands of federal employees who have civil service protections
  • Fired 17 inspectors general (or watchdogs) of various federal agencies
  • Shut down federal agencies that only Congress is allowed to close

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS

We are protesting the illegal actions of a convicted felon president. It is important to know what rights we have as protestors (courtesy ACLU):

  1. You don't need a permit to protest in response to breaking news and you don't need a permit to march in the streets or along sidewalks, as long as you're not obstructing traffic or access to buildings (note: our march is actually permitted).
  2. When you are lawfully present in any public space, you have the right to photograph anything in plain view, including federal buildings and the police.
  3. If you believe your rights have been violated, when you can, write down everything you remeber, get contact information for witnesses, and take photographs of any injuries.
  4. If you get stopped by the police, ask if you're free to go. If they say yes, calmly walk away.
  5. If you get arrested, you have a right to ask why. Otherwise, say you wish to remain silent and ask for a lawyer immediately. Don't sign, say or agree to anything without a lawyer preset.
  6. If you get stopped by a member of the military or any law enforcement officer at a protest, you have the right to remain silent or to tell them that you'll only answer questions in the presence of an attorney - no matter your citizenship or immigration status.

WHO WE ARE

Democracy Action Network (DAN) was founded in November 2024 by David Comfort in response to the re-election of Donald Trump. Emerging as a grassroots organization dedicated to defending democratic institutions, promoting civic engagement, and fostering inclusive democracy, DAN has quickly become a prominent force in the pro-democracy movement. With a nonpartisan ethos and a commitment to nonviolent resistance, DAN seeks to address threats to constitutional governance while building a broad-based coalition for democratic renewal. Indivisible LA - The Indivisible movement is a progressive grassroots movement of millions of activists across every state, fueled by a partnership between thousands of autonomous local Indivisible groups and a national staff. Indivisible’s national team offers strategic leadership, movement coordination, and support to Indivisible activists, and also directly lobbies Congress, builds partnerships, runs media campaigns, and develops advocacy strategies. Together we fight to defeat the rightwing takeover of the American government and build an inclusive democracy. https://indivisible.org/

50501 Socal - The first #50501 protests were a decentralized rapid response to the anti-democratic and illegal actions of the Trump administration and its plutocratic allies. The idea—50 protests in 50 states on 1 day—was born on r/50501 and spread rapidly on social media. In just days, grassroots organizers—without any budget, centralized structure, or official backing—pulled off over 80 peaceful protests in all 50 states. Twelve days later, tens of thousands of Americans declared "No Kings Day" and protested once more. On March 4th, a call to stand up for democracy was answered with another wave of protests. The protests were covered by every major media outlet, showing the world that the American working class will not sit idly by as plutocrats rip apart their democratic institutions and civil liberties while undermining the rule of law. https://fiftyfifty.one/
